Land Rover Range Rover Sport (13 - present)

As the sport name suggests, this car is all about performance, and it has certainly delivered on that front. This is the second generation although it’s not an entirely different beast from the first. In terms of appearance, it has gone through some changes both inside and out. It’s been given a more contemporary and luxurious look, although it is still instantly recognisable as a Range Rover Sport. It has also lost some weight due to an all-new aluminium chassis. It’s still as practical as ever - there’s tons of passenger space in the cavernous cabin and pretty large boot too. The performance has also seen an improvement thanks to the weight-loss. The steering feels sharp and precise, offering lots of feedback. It can weave around bends with ease thanks to the ingenious ‘Torque Vectoring Control’, which means it transfers pulling power to the outside wheels to give it that ‘small car’ type handling. When taken off-road, it carries the same skills as the standard Range Rover. It’s more than capable in any setting.

Look out for

•  Be aware that the stop/start technology only works if your foot is on the footbrake

What we like

•  Incredibly luxurious and very spacious cabin

•  Absolutely superb all-round performance both on and off-road

•  Ride quality is comfortable and surprisingly quiet even off-road

•  Even more economical than the outgoing model

What we don't like

•  The petrol engines can be a bit thirsty
